DAYTON, Ohio (January 19, 2023) – Omega Community Development Corporation (Omega CDC) announced it is one of 6 grantees in the nation set to receive a Promise Neighborhoods award from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will serve as a major accelerator to the work Omega CDC has led, driving improved educational and social outcomes specifically for children and families in northwest Dayton, where the need for investment is great.

“We’re beyond thrilled to receive this news. This grant will drive the transformative and systemic change this neighborhood so deserves,” said Rachel Ward, Director of Operations and Strategic Initiatives for Omega CDC. “Over the course of this grant period, we’ll build a sustainable model for uplifting families out of multi-generational poverty with evidence-based strategies, resources and opportunities.”

As a grantee, Omega CDC will receive a total of $28,788,984 in federal dollars, to be disbursed over the course of the next 5-6 years. The funds will support a cradle-to-career continuum of services delivered by 33 organizations. The initiative will also be supported by a more than $90M matched investment from our local community.

Rachel Ward will lead the work, known as the Hope Zone Promise Neighborhood Initiative (Hope Zone). The project will focus on the community just northwest of downtown Dayton, bordered by Gettysburg Avenue to the west, Siebenthaler Avenue to the north and Riverview Avenue, Riverside Drive and James H. McGee Blvd to the south and southwest. For more details, please read the attached press release.
