Have you wondered how our international partners utilize a Mobility Mentoring® informed approach?
Here’s a sneak peek from Juno, one of our partners located in Australia!
Juno joined the Exchange Network in 2018. Since its start in 2002 Juno’s primary role has been to support and advocate for individual women and non-binary people and their children. Their approach is non-judgmental, person-centred, and evidence-based to empower the people they serve to make lasting improvements in their lives. Juno has developed a progressive and creative response to homelessness, gender-related poverty, and trauma. All of their programs are trauma-informed and delivered through an intersectional feminist framework.
Juno’s Mobility Mentoring® informed program is called EMPower. The EMPower coaching program gives participants the skills and confidence to thrive and achieve greater economic freedom. Economic mobility can be defined as not only having access to income, assets, training, and employment but also having access to more intangible resources like agency and confidence — the ability to make choices for oneself, influence others, and have social inclusion.
Juno’s EMPower Coaches work in partnership with women who have experienced homelessness or family violence, supporting them to recover from the impacts of trauma and build strong, economically secure, and thriving futures for themselves and their families.
Through one-on-one coaching, each woman builds a clear and achievable plan, or ‘bridge to self-sufficiency’, to achieve their goals in their identified areas of interest. The women also take part in group work to learn new skills, build social connections and have fun. Some of the many amazing outcomes of the EMPower coaching journey include working towards dream careers, finding work, becoming financially independent, paying off debts, and securing affordable housing.
‘The future looked like a jigsaw before I joined EMPower, and now all of the pieces are slowly, carefully and happily being put into place.’ – EMPower Participant
